Jon I'm bullish on Post News, what's your opinion about it? I like Mastodon's vibe, unfortunately that's about all I like it for and maybe it's decentralized retro idealism.

From what I can gather, Post News seems okay but it hearkens me back a little to when MeWe links were being shared. I tend to be late to the party with new social media though, so who knows. I joined the Post waitlist but I apparently can't get off it until five people sign up through my link.

I like the federated nature of Mastodon. If it actually takes off, I'll just show up late to that party with my own self-hosted instance and domain name though. It's just a fair amount of set up and maintenance for that right now is all; and Microsoft's ― in the past few days ― just starting to allow people to verify themselves on Mastodon through their GitHub is kinda creeping me out, for now.

If anything ends up staying true to openness, free speech, and open source all at once, then I'm likely going to make that my mainstay. But Substack is a good compromise because Stripe seems to take the liability of the KYC-aspect if I ever want to monetize my writing despite lacking an open source software component.

I hear Signal introduced stories or something. Seems they might try to go in a SnapChat or Telegram direction. That might be interesting, I don't know. I haven't played with it yet.
